Jazz Gala

A POSTER DESIGN AND COMBINATION INVITATION AND RSVP DESIGN FOR LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL JAZZ BAND.

This project was a commission for a local high school jazz band that was hosting an event. They needed an invitation to send out as well as an RSVP card. And a poster to hand out at the event and have their guest musicon sign for participants and guests. The poster needed to contain information about the event, be eye catching, and have space for the musician to sign in silver sharpie.

I began this project by researching my size restrictions. Postcard size for the invite and RSVP and predetermined size for the poster. I decided to stick with a darker theme as an ode to the nature of the event (lights off in a concert hall). I researched the guest musician and found a photo of him playing his instrument of choice, using that to create a silhouette for the poster so that it’s unique to this event.

The rest of the design came together with my research into a Gala theme. Stripes in the background are for leading the eye to the most important information on the poster. And the primary font has a more vintage and high end event feel.

Once the poster was done the rest of the items were a matter of rearranging the primary elements of the design into a smaller format to complete the set.

Overall this project came together well and has the very classic feel I associate with this type of event. Perhaps not the most creative, but practical solutions
